Warm Bodies - A Story of Salvation
I belong in the camp that thinks that Zombies movies aren't fun to watch. Warm Bodies is an exception. Warm Bodies is a funny movie about Zombies becoming human again. It is a movie about dead people coming back to life.
The change from Zombies to live humans can be seen as a three step process.
1. Zombie realizes that being a Zombie is not ideal, something is wrong. Zombie yearns for a better life. Zombie knows that if nothing changes things will go from bad to worse as it gets increasingly dead.
2. Someone from outside the Zombie world provides the first spark of love that changes the Zombie from within the heart.
3. As the Zombies become Human war starts between the faction of Zombies that want to retain status quo. The Zombies have to fight against the force of evil that is wanting to keep them Zombies.
In a lot of ways, this story is similar to the story of Salvation. When Adam and Eve disobeyed God, they 'died' in the spirit. Things started the downward trend... from bad to worse. One son killed another etc... etc... etc... Then comes in a Saviour from outside the 'dead' world to bring Life - 'Life in all its fullness'.
Without a Savior from the land of the living coming into the dead world to save, the dead would remain dead. In Warm Bodies, it is the love of Julie (the one playing the Savior figure from the land of the living) that warms up the Zombie heart to make it alive. In the life of a Christian too, in as much as we allow the love of the Savior to warm our heart up, we'll be alive. If on the other hand, we are oblivious to our depravity and to the love that our Savior extends to us, we'll remain Zombies becoming deader by the day.
In a sense all of us are Zombies who are growing more dead with each passing day. Just like Zombie movies aren't fun to watch. Zombie life isn't fun either, unless there is a loving Savior who'll rescue us form death to give us life in all of its fullness!
